I'm not sure that a cafe whose name includes the word 'pickle' is going to appeal to everyone automatically, however, Pickle In The Middle is well worth checking out, even is pickles are not your favourite food. Pickle In The Middle is located on Unley Road and is only a short walk away from the Woolworths and Target carparks. This cafe makes for a perfect brunch date destination, with a fantastic breakfast menu and a lunch selection that includes plenty of pickled things.
The cafe is quite small, so it's a good idea to get in early to ensure you have a table. Everything is very light, bright and clean, with a relaxed Scandinavian vibe. This is an excellent spot for an early morning casual coffee meeting or a brilliant place for your next friend's brunch.
I'm not what you'd call a huge fan of pickled things, so I always tend to stick towards to all-day breakfast side of the menu. The smashed avocado toast is delicious, and you can customise how much of the pickled red onions you would like. I didn't eat many of the pickled red onions, however, I really enjoyed the unique combination of flavours. The black sesame waffles are particularly delicious and are not something I have not seen on other menus. It is also definitely worth checking out the dessert counter, I found a protein ball so delicious that my eyes rolled back into my skull. They also have an extensive drinks menu, including a few fascinating sounding cocktails. It is the kind of menu that is bound to impress and surprise.
Most cafes of this style tend to be on the pricier side, however, Pickle In The Middle prices tend to be a little lower. A lot of the food is made, and you can taste the difference. If you are a fan of pickled foods in general, there is always the option of booking in for one of the occasional Pickling Workshops, which sound like a lot of fun. The quality of the food is fantastic, the presentation is beautiful, and the staff are very welcoming, this place is definitely worth the brunch price.
