You have heard of strawberry picking. You have heard of cherry picking. But have you heard of fig picking?
Just two weeks ago was the first time I got to know about fig picking after living in Adelaide for more than 17 years. I could not believe it, where have I been all this while? But I guess it is better late than never.
Today my friends and I went fig picking for the very first time at Glen Ewin Estate on Lower Hermitage Road in Houghton. It is located approximately 25 kilometres northeast of the city in the Adelaide Hills region. It is home to Willabrand Figs which has almost 12,000 fig trees on its terraces. There are rows and rows and rows of fig trees throughout the orchard, just seems unending to us. Their five main varieties are Archipal, Deanna, Spanish Desert, Brown Turkey and Black Genoa.
