I am a writer living in Adelaide. I love food and travel.
Apples can't get fresher than that
You've picked your own strawberries. You've picked your own cherries. You've even picked your own figs. Now it is time to pick your own apples.
Over the weekend of 6 and 7 May 2017, apple orchards in Lenswood will be open for picking. You will have the opportunity to wander around the orchards, breathe in the orchard smells and pick pink lady apples straight from the trees. You can also meet the growers, discover how apples are produced and learn about different varieties.
Entry is $5 per adult and $2 per student. There are three apple orchards to choose from - either 72 Harris Road, 640 Swamp Road or 423 Swamp Road. They are located approximately 30 kilometres east of the city in the Adelaide Hills premium apple growing region.
The apple harvest season is well underway. Do look out for latest updates on their facebook page.
Does Lenswood still have an Apple & Pear Festival on the Lenswood Oval ?? We went to a couple back in the 1960s. They had floats, marching girls, displays and various apple and pear products for sale. One year they had a Country and Western Show on the oval at night. I know a family who went to one in the late 1990s or early 2000s.
