There's a plethora of eateries in Melbourne's inner north and now the revamped Piccolino Pizza and Gnocchi bar rejoins the scene.
Located on a quieter corner in Fitzroy North, the yellow neon lights will catch your eye in the evenings.
With a new woodfire oven and head chef from Umbria, Italy, the small and intimate venue has opted for a casual vibe.
Wines are served on tap by
TAP. Wines , to combat the waste produced by empty wine bottles. They've even made Aperol spritzes on tap, which unsurprisingly proved popular on this night.
The decor is light and fun - they've even taken down a wall to make the space feel more welcoming.
The playful approach is extended from the interior to the food. Chef Andrea Fioriti introduced something that could be described as an Italian version of a toastie using Umbrian bread, salumi, veggies and cheese
(torta al testo).
Meanwhile, the pizzas showcase classic flavours and you can see them being 'made with love' as the kitchen and woodfire oven are in full view. See the full menu
here to check out what favourites are on offer along with more uncommon, smaller Italian bites.
If your friend feels like pasta and you feel like pizza, then luckily Piccolino does both. Pasta is made on site but the flavours depend on what local produce the team gets in that week due to their focus on a 'what's fresh' philosophy.
On this night we sampled some tagliatelle in Bolognese sauce as well as some gnocchi with mushrooms and truffle. It was definitely a carb-filled meal!
If you've visited Piccolino before, time to visit again to see its spring makeover. If you haven't, time for a first try.
They will even be running
aperitivo 5.30-7pm, the Italian equivalent of Happy Hour where a small bite is given alongside every drink.

If you get cravings for Italian food and you're looking for something fun and casual, this is the place for something a little different. Sample a taste of Perugia, Umbria in a Melbourne setting next time you're in the inner north.
