Contemporary culture in the city
The summer holiday season is approaching and with it comes a variety of things to do in Perth and its surrounds. The newest offering is from PICA, the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts at the Cultural Centre. PICA After Dark is a free series of music, film and art events on Friday nights from 18 November to 16 December. Starting at 5pm the sessions will be a great way to end the working week.

PICA is one of Australia's largest exhibition spaces and hosts an annual program of art, music, dance and more. For 30 years PICA has presented contemporary local and international cultural events. PICA After Dark continues this tradition as visitors can explore the galleries and enjoy specially curated performances from local artists, musicians and thinkers. Visitors can also enjoy a free drink thanks to sponsor Rocky Ridge Brewing (while stocks last).

The lineup of events:

18 November: The series opens with the Latin American sound of Aiyana in a tribute to Pilar Mata Dupont's current exhibition.

25 November: A screening of the classic film The King and I (1956) will be followed by a discussion between Australian-Thai artist Nathan Beard and Curtin University lecturer Dr Christina Lee.

To complete the summer series the RTRFM Edition will feature the unique dancehall, disco, and underground house beats of Girlname (2 December r), electro duo Hi. Ok, Sorry's mesmerising soundscapes (9 December), and a joyful Bla(c)k sonic dance party from local faves Soul Alphabet (16 December).
