ART101 Gallery invite you to come along and take in the remarkable photography of Rory O'Chee, in his first solo exhibition, Australian Summer | Nature's beauty. This collection will exhibit close-up images that focus on colour, light and texture of natural phenomena.

Rory is an amazing self-taught photographer who uses this media to explore stories without the need for words. His visual expression is a story through image and his focus has been to connect the viewer with the stories that other people do not see.

2014 saw Rory O'Chee commissioned to produce a collection of photos for the Central Highlands Tourism Office in the Carnarvon Gorge and Molyember Gorge. This, together with his extensive awards and recognition (details below) make his work a must see exhibition.

The results of Rory's unique eye for light and texture are, as you can see, absolutely stunning.

This exhibition focuses on the theme of capturing the Australian Summer and Nature's beauty. We are surrounded by the beauty of nature and Rory O'Chee has captured the essence of the play of light and texture in his work. It is certainly going to be an exciting exhibition.

There will be an Artist's Reception held on Sunday 17th May 2015, 2pm – 3pm and everyone is welcome. So come along and enjoy meeting Rory O'Chee. Take some time to discuss his principle inspirations and meet his mentor and coach, Melissa Howard, who also happens to be the Director of ART101 .

About Rory O'Chee
Rory O'Chee is a talented Brisbane based photographer whose work is noteworthy, not just for his youth, but for the unique "outsider" perspective he brings to his photography.

At the age of 16 years, he was the most awarded junior photographer in Australia in 2014. His photographic work has resulted in a string of wins and commendations at regional, national and international levels.

This exciting artist is entirely self-taught and has developed a strong style of his own. His photography makes powerful use of light and shape to create distinctive and arresting images.

Rory was originally attracted to photography as a medium to express his creativity, since his fine motor skills are restricted by his Down Syndrome. Once he realised what could be achieved with the camera, Rory set about using photography to "tell stories without using words", and with a strong desire to "tell the stories other people don't see."

Rory O'Chee has received the following prizes for his photographic work:
• Special Mention in Visioning the Outdoors 2015
• Winner, Visioning the Outdoors, 2014
• Finalist, Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea Nature Photographer of the Year, 2014
• Winner, My World Photo Competition, 2014 (a worldwide competition for photographers with Down Syndrome)
• Special Mention, Visioning the Outdoors, 2015
• Highly Commended, Nudgee College Art Festival, 2014
• Third, Junior Photography RNA, 2013
• Highly Commended, Open Colour Photography, RNA, 2013

Australian Summer | Nature's beauty - up close and personal will be held at ART101 Gallery and runs from Sunday 17th May until Sunday 24th May, 2015.
