You can order your meals at the main bar downstairs as you walk in, or head upstairs and order directly at the diner. If you're coming here at lunch time between the hours of 12-4pm; bear in mind that the cocktail bar is closed. Easier to order at the main bar downstairs, and as soon as your buzzer goes off - immediately head upstairs; collect your food and get settled right in.
There is a lunch special, where for $9 a pop I got to enjoy a Vegetarian Burger (normally $12) - a zucchini fritter burger with grilled haloumi; salad; guacamole and aioli. With this burger, I also ordered a Lemon Lime and Bitters to drink. This is such awesome value for money. Furthermore, the burger also comes with a generous serving of thick cut chips. You can also help yourself to as much sauce as you want to. Definitely a great place for the Sydney uni students across the road to come to, as well as locals and visitors to the area.
The main bar downstairs. Best to order here at lunch times.
The frittata inside the Vegetarian Burger was moist, yet rather filling. I wasn't too sure how this would work in with the haloumi cheese, but it did! The bun is brioche style, and isn't too sweet either. A really filling lunch. Also loved the Lemon Lime and Bitter. The chips were tasty and not overwhelming. I did not need too much dinner either after all of this.
The service here is rather friendly too. Furthermore, look out for the diners $10 dinner dinners every Monday to Thursday night. If you love your Mexican fare, come to the Phoenix Diner on a Monday night. Burgers on Tuesday night. Wings on Wednesday night, and if you love your Pizza - mark Thursday night in your diary to come here.
