Pho Doan Vien
Taking the place of
Pho SA ,
Pho Doan Vien is where you can enjoy Vietnamese cuisine. The dishes range from those familiar to most Australians to more unique offerings.
A slight twist on the Vietnamese dish Bot Chien (Vietnamese Fried Rice Cake), the Vietnamese Fried Taro Rice Cake with Fried Egg replaces the rice cake with those made from taro. The taro cakes were soft with a slightly chewy texture. We liked that they were cooked sufficiently to give the exterior a nice crust. The eggs were light and fluffy and the side serving of pickled vegetables were not too tangy. Accompanying the dish was soy dipping sauce.

The pork chop in the Charcoal Grill Pork Chop with Broken Rice was cooked just right and had a nice degree of charred flavour. Slices of cucumber provided a fresh element and the pickles were just as good as that in the Vietnamese Fried Taro Rice Cake with Fried Egg. Served with the dish was a bowl of pho broth and nuoc chum dipping sauce.

The portion size of the Chicken Cabbage Salad was generous and can be shared. The slices of chicken were not dry and had a nice char on the exterior. The shredded cabbage was crisp and mint leaves added a refreshing flavour. Take care with the chilli as they pack a potent fiery punch. The dressing for the salad gave it a tangy flavour which did not mask the taste of the cabbage.

The restaurant had an Asian feel and had a good amount of seating space. Its location makes it easily accessible to workers, students and visitors in the Adelaide CBD that desire tasty Vietnamese food.
