Sweaty sleeping bags, smelly backpacks, tough ol' sleeping mats and pokey tents; that's camping right? Not if you glamp on Phillip Island!

Glamping; a play on the words camping and glamour, throws the fundamentals of traditional camping out the window, and welcomes style and luxury to the great outdoors. Think bell tents, welcome mats, scatter cushions with matching blankets, heaters and bedside tables. If you like the idea of camping, but would rather not 'rough it', glamping is for you.


But, you see, glamping isn't just a word for fancy camping, it's actually a growing business trend, and a very good one at that. Businesses around the world, much like , introduce you to a whole new world of camping, whether you're versed in the great outdoors or not.


How it all works

exists to make your outdoor camping experience enjoyable, hassle free and comfortable. The family owned business is run by island locals Serena & Alejandro Cabello. The well-travelled couple bring a wealth of industry experience into , and currently manage spacious two bell tents to accommodate you as a couple (4m), or as a family (5m).


Where you stay

Serena & Alejandro Cabello have established partnerships with some of the best holiday parks on Phillip Island. Preferred sites with Cowes Cowes Caravan Park and San Remo Foreshore Caravan Park bring the beach to your tent-step. Beach front sites offer spectacular views across Westernport Bay (from Cowes Caravan Park), and the sandy shores of Phillip Island (from San Remo Foreshore Caravan Park). Be aware that camp site fees come at an extra cost, and range from $37 - $60 per night. Once you've established your ideal glamp dates with , call your preferred caravan park to book your site.


What you get with

Usually, when you camp, you would need to bring everything bar the kitchen sink. When you glamp with , you really don't need to bring a thing, except your-good-selves. Ok, a change of clothes, something to eat, and your toothbrush might not go amiss, but otherwise, you're all set.


Arrive at your camp site, to find your bell tent set up and styled, just as if you were to arrive at a hotel room for the first time. Both 4m and 5m bell tents include a queen size air mattress made up with sheets, pillow cases, doonas, blankets and pillows. Family tents (5m) can also accommodate up to an additional 3 single air mattresses. A day lounge is provided in the couples tent, otherwise a couch in the family tent, plus outdoor tables and chairs to enjoy the view.


Other inclusions: bath towels, heater, bedside lamp, digital radio, torch, umbrella, kettle, toaster, crockery, cutlery, chopping board, knife, spatula and tongs, fry pan, tea and coffee making facilities, a small esky and cleaning amenities. Cute little extras include games to enjoy on the beach or in the comfort of your spacious retreat.

As your site is powered, you will be able to charge mobile phones, iPads, etc. if you wish. Otherwise, make the most of the serenity, and enjoy your time 'unplugged' taking in Phillip Island's natural surroundings.

Costs

Costs differ, depending on your group size. Rental prices start from $120 per night mid-week for the 4m bell tent suited to couples, up to $140 for Friday and Saturday nights, as well as public holidays. Family tents (5m) will cost you $140 for a couple, plus $20 per extra person per night, mid-week. Friday and Saturday nights, as well as public holiday night rentals are $160 for two people, $20 per extra person per night.
