Petty's Orchard is about a 20 min walk from the Main Yarra Trail from the Eltham Train Park. My suggestion is leave the car there and explore the nature trails, making it a perfect pit stop for bike riders or walkers.
The café is located down a dirt track, (look out for the A-frame sign) and set among the Apple orchards and paddocks. At dusk or early morning you may spot some 'roos grazing in the distance. Petty's is one of Melbourne's oldest commercial orchards, and it holds the largest collection of apple varieties on mainland Australia, with more than two hundred varieties of old and rare apples. Nestled by the Yarra river, the temperature can drop a few degrees cooler.
I just love bike riding here and usually reward myself with a light healthy gluten free carrot cake or freshly squeezed organic juice. At the moment I'm into the beetroot juice, which is refreshing, organic and a healthy alternative to drinking a tea or coffee.
