Any animal lover will tell you that shopping for their favourite friends can be a necessity but also a lot of fun where it can be hard to resist buying that little something extra to give back some of the love they give their 'hoomans'.
On one such shopping outing, I visited Petstock at Keperra, which has a wide range of, well, stock for pets.
About Petstock
Petstock is an Australian owned company which began operating in 2002 in regional Victoria and works under the vision of "
Helping pets inspire every person, every family, every day."
With a number of stores across Australia, Petstock's newest store is located within the Great Western Shopping Centre in Samford Road at Keperra. Here are some of the highlights to look out for at this pet lover's paradise.
Pet Products
The main feature of the Petstock store, as you would expect, is the pet products. They carry a large range for all major necessities and added extras for companion animals. The aisles are filled with delicious food supplies, grooming products, medications, fun toys, comfy beds, walking leads and harnesses.
The range is impressive, stocking some boutique products which are harder to find in some other pet shops. For example, the salon-quality Melanie Newman dog shampoo and conditioning treatments can be bought here off the shelf to make your pup's coat clean and soft.
Your dog will turn heads with its sleek coat. For the older or hard of walking dogs, there are walking carriers, so they can still enjoy the outdoors with a little less effort.
The product area which really caught my attention was the equine products and equipment not normally seen in pet stores. It covered a range of saddlery, rugs for horses, and riding apparel, including helmets for owners.
If pups have a minor "accident" and who can blame them with all the sweet smells in the air, there is a wee station on hand to make it disappear in a flash. As well as its product range, Petstock offers several animal services such as:
Pet Adoption
Looking for a pet or another to add to the brood? On my visit, the store had three adventurous and adorable young kittens looking for their forever homes. If you are looking for a pet which is a little smaller and lower maintenance, there are budgerigars and also a wall of fish and tanks to bring tranquility to your home.
**
Puppy preschool.**
If you do bring a new four-legged member into the family, you might want to get a head start of manners and positive behaviours. Petstock provides puppy preschool for socialisation, information, lessons and advice on helping pooch settle and grow into a happy life.
Pet Grooming and DIY Dogwash
The back wall of the store is where all of the beauty treatments happen. Petstock has its own grooming studio which I guess is like a day spa for dogs. Think hydro baths, blow drys, style cuts and finishing sprays. They will leave ready to hit the dog park and turn heads. Full clips/breed styles range from $70-$100, bath, groom and tidy from $55-$$100 and puppy grooms are $50 up to 6 months.
There is also a DIY pet bath station where you can pop them in the tubs and give them a shampoo and massage yourself.
Rewards Program
Petstock also offers a rewards program where you can collect points from your purchases to go towards your next buy. It all adds up.
**
Petstock Charity **
One thing I didn't realise is that Petstock has its own charity foundation, which is committed to making a long-term difference and positive change in the lives of pets and humans within the community by providing regular grants to in-need programs and organisations who help people and pets in our community.
As one example, they sell fluffy toys of endangered species with a portion of the sale revenue going towards the charity.
Petstock Vetchat
If I wasn't impressed already, the service which cinched the deal was the Petstock Vetchat service which is a 24 hour, every day service where owners can arrange real-time vet consultations via text and video calls with Australian vets to receive instant advice. The service ranges from $39.95 (6am-midnight) to $59.95 (midnight to 6am).
I certainly finished my shopping experience with a collection of the necessities and new information, some I didn't go looking for but was grateful to receive. I'm sure my little friend will also enjoy the purchases for fun and play as well.
Keperra is located at 1028 Samford Road, Keperra.
