Thank you Valerie, for letting Eddy and I visit outside of your opening hours! We really appreciated your top-notch service to your customers.

have everything you need to spoil your beloved pooch, in the one location. A small run-from-home business, Pets at Home Care has been operating for about 5 years, and expanded their service provision to include a bakery with only homemade pet treats about a year and a half ago. Considering that is fairly new, I was so impressed by the range of treats that they had available - I had literally never seen so many different types, even in the big pet store franchises!

Valerie, founder and owner of , started off the bakery on the premises that many of her customers have dogs that have allergies which severely restrict the number of treats that their owners could buy them from pet stores. To combat this, Valerie founded , and makes all her treats at home, to ensure good quality. None of her treats contain sugar, salt or preservatives, and is most definitely pet friendly. also does custom-made doggy cakes for special occasions - upon request, Valerie can show you examples of her work.

As you can see, Eddy and I purchased lots of treats - there were just too many to choose from! I took a long time deciding, as there was just too much choice. Valerie was very patient with us throughout, and gave us recommendations on items that she thought Eddy might enjoy. She also told us about a pumpkin and cheese muffin that is a favourite with her regulars, although unfortunately she did not have any in stock today. Usually, her regulars buy the muffins to share with their pooches, because they're tasty by human standards too!

For the feline owners out there, although does not have cat treats as such, their range of fish products are safe for cats to consume, as well as dogs. My friend took home several products (one which Valerie calls 'fish and chips') for his two cats to try - he was feeling adventurous and bought a packet of shark cartilage. Valerie mentioned that the fish that she uses in her treats are from Mission Beach, up near Cairns.

It is easy to order with - they accept orders via phone, text, email, or Facebook. They even deliver within the Bayside area every Wednesday, with an affordable flat rate delivery fee that is not dependent on weight. They are also open at their home-run office 7 days a week - Monday to Friday from 3pm to 5:30pm, and Saturday from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. For those of you who don't live in the Bayside area, can also be found at the Sherwood Rocklea Markets every Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 12pm. For those of you with small kids, Valerie will provide (safe-for-human-consumption) cupcakes and other baked goodies free of charge, with any purchase of pet treats - what a great deal!

Aside from services that involve looking after your dog in your own home (i.e. feed, walk, and tidy up after them), Pets at Home Care also "take out the bins, collect the mail, and even pick up the odd palm leaf". They also offer pooch pampering services via their mobile van. Valerie introduced the "strip out" service, which is a service offered for long haired and double coated breeds (Eddy is the latter). Eddy sheds all year round, literally 24/7, which can be quite high maintenance - with this service, Eddy will look the same but will have had his hair brushed and stripped out of dead and loose hair, meaning that his coat will be smoother too. I had not heard of this service prior to my visit to Pets at Home Care, and I am most definitely interested in the idea of getting it done!

We had such a lovely morning at Pets at Home Care & Bakery, and Eddy certainly left bearing lots of goodies! With the market becoming increasingly industrialised and mass-production becoming an everyday occurrence, I feel that it is more important than ever to support Australia's own local businesses, and give them the support that they need to continue thriving for generations to come. Thank you for your hospitality today, Valerie - Eddy and I hope to see you again soon!
