You can usually tell how good a takeaway place is by the amount of customers it gets. So when I showed up at 10 minutes before cooking was due to begin one lunchtime over the Christmas holidays, I took one look at the long queue of people in front of me and knew I was in the right place.

Located on Seaworld Drive at Main Beach, Peter's serves up the freshest possible seafood for a horde of hungry customers. You can get your fish battered, crumbed or grilled, seasoned with a range of spices or served with a Thai lime and chilli marinade.

If you prefer prawns, crab, lobster, oysters or even Moreton Bay bugs, this Gold Coast establishment has what you're looking for. When it's time for a big seafood feast - think Christmas, Easter or Australia Day - this place attracts huge crowds.

But the best way to experience is to order some takeaway fish and chips. There's a huge range of fresh fish to chooose from laid out tantalisingly in front of you, and the menu features all the staples you'd expect from a fish and chippery.

For the best value, try one of the menu specials which combine calamari, prawn cutlets, fish bites and chips for just $12. It's cooked while you wait and comes out crispy, golden and delicious.

Once your meal is ready you can either head outside to a table to enjoy your fresh seafood feast, or drive out along The Spit and find a spot in front of the water to dine in style.

Cooking times run from 12pm until 7:30pm Queensland time, so be prepared to wait for lunchtime cooking to start if you're on NSW time and you're feeling hungry a bit earlier than the locals.
