Good wine, great local food and beautiful scenery. What more could you want for a lazy afternoon picnic in the picturesque Barossa Valley?

Nestled amongst red gums and vineyards is Peter Lehmann Wines , one of the prettiest cellar doors in the Barossa, and my personal favourite.

If you are out for a weekend wine tasting, the cellar door is situated along Para Road in Tanunda. Peter Lehmann is within walking (or stumbling) distance of other great wineries including Langmeil Wines and Richmond Grove. There is also a wide range of accommodation nearby, from motels to quaint B&B's.

The old building and veranda both make a lovely place to enjoy a wine tasting, but for me it is the surrounding grounds that make this place special. Wine can be purchased by the glass or bottle and on a sunny day the picnic tables under the gums are a perfect place to relax. The staff are very friendly and do not mind if you bring your own food to eat outside, which we have done many times. But if you really want to be indulgent, the Weighbridge Platter is the way to go.

Laden with the finest locally produced foods - including Linke's Mettwurst & Lachsschinken, Barossa Valley Cheeses, Apex Bread, Maggie Beer Pâté and Barossa Bark - this platter is a great way to sample the best of Barossa, with a glass of wine of course.

For more information on the Barossa Valley the Barossa website has lots of information on places, activities, tours and accommodation.
