Dress up your dog: raise funds for Variety's assistance dogs
Petember is an event held across Australia to raise money for Assistance Dogs for children in need. From now until 30th September 2020, you can register your dog for this worthwhile competition. Petember is the largest fundraiser from Variety – the Children's Charity Victoria and is fun for everyone with dogs dressing up in costumes to raise valuable funds.
It is easy to take part! Sign up to PAWt and create your fundraising page. Ask you friends and family and other PAWrents to sponsor you to help Variety Assistance Dogs. It is FREE to entry. Every Tuesday in Petember, weekly doggie dress-up themes will be announced so you can PAWpare yourself and your pet for some fun. There are heaps of great prizes up to $5,000 to be won also. Prizes have been donated by Australian pet products champions – FuzzYard.
It costs approximately $40,000 to train and place a Variety Assistance Dog with plenty of kids on the waiting list to have a dog who can assist them in their daily lives. One such child is Sarah, who at fifteen years of age has up to one hundred seizures a week. Variety fundraisers have provided a life-saving Assistance Dog named Luna to Sarah. Luna can alert Sarah's mum to oncoming seizures during the night and place Sarah in a recovery position to ensure she does not choke when experiencing the seizure. With the aid of Luna, Sarah is now able to walk to school by herself and sleep in her own room.
During the last financial year, Variety has funded nine Assistance Dogs for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Anxiety and Epilepsy. So far in 2020, Variety has received applications for dogs totalling over $195,000 with eight children are currently on a waiting list.
Let us get behind Variety and get as many furry friends as possible to register for this event. Judges for this year's event are Sedona the Aussie (@aussie.sedona) and Muppet and Bear (@muppetandbear) and dogs will be judged on their costume originality, humour, creativity and charisma. Donating online can be done here.
Dressing up is lots of fun so, register now for a month of doggie PAWjoyment!
