Delicious treats
We all love that feeling of fun and expectation of visiting a new cafe, right? Well, here's one for your furry and feathered friends. Pet Café provides a comprehensive range of pet supplies and products, operating on the motto of supplying the finest fresh foods and all your pet's' needs. Over the Christmas break, I visited the Ashgrove franchise which is located on busy Waterworks Road and is operated by Colin and Jackie McPaul.
Don't be fooled by the name, though. While the Pet Café contains aisles of delicious treats, wet and dry food and glamorous and practical accessories for pets, it's not a café like the human variety. It doesn't have indoor or outdoor seating, a way too serious barista standing behind a coffee machine or a cake cabinet with warm, baked muffins for us. But pets are welcome to come inside and join you in browsing through organic, packaged supplies that are just as delicious for them. All major brands are on offer: Advance, Royal Canin, Black Hawk and specialist brands like Australian Natural Health, Ivory Coat. A wall of packaged bite-sized treats are perfect for training or rewarding good behaviour or larger treats like antlers provide hours of chewing fun.

More food to choose
I always make a bee-line for their 1kg bags of budgie seed which is one of several offerings for small birds including canaries.
Along with food, the café has your pets' sleeping needs covered with summer and winter beds to rest and snuggle in and a colourful and fluffy assortment of toys for them to wrestle with and chew.

Staying cool with doggy ice-creamJust when you thought that pups couldn't be more spoilt, Pet Café stocks Hugo's ice-creamery for dogs (in 3 delicious flavours –peanut butter and bacon, salmon and strawberry) to keep pooch cool this summer. How wonderful! Created on the Gold Coast, these frozen doggie treats are made by hand using locally sourced ingredients as much as possible. Servings come in a 100g (approx.) scoop. It's named, of course, after the creator's much-loved pooch, Hugo.

Pet Styling and Grooming The Café also has a small grooming studio tucked away at the back of the shop. Pups can visit, by appointment for nail clippings, washing, a clip and full grooming services.

Pet ParkingReserved parking is available at the front of the shop or in nearby side streets. Keep an eye out for a very friendly and active caged parrot which might greet you as you open the entrance door.
