These Easter school holidays, you and your family can go behind the scenes at Perth Zoo and get an up-close and personal look its 1500 inhabitants. From the 3rd to the 19th of April 2015, Perth Zoo is expanding its Eye to Eye animal encounter program, giving visitors the opportunity get closer to more animals than ever before and learn about them from the people who know them best, their dedicated zoo keepers.
There are over 17 animal encounter experiences to choose from, with opportunities to meet the African Lions, Rhinoceros, Black Cockatoos, the critically endangered Black and White Lemurs, Orang-utans, Tasmanian Devils and Giraffe.Perth Zoo spokesperson, Danielle Henry, said "There's nothing like touching the rough skin of a rhino or feeling the hot breath of a lion as it roars in your direction, trust me it will definitely send shivers up your spine!""It certainly gives you an appreciation of wildlife and why it's imperative to protect them.""The encounters also give you a taste of the inner workings of the Zoo. And being with the keepers you learn so much more about the animals they dedicate their lives to looking after.""You'll find out which Rhino likes to throw his weight around at feeding time, meet the lively Black and White Lemur brothers, 'Marco' and 'Polo' and discover who will soon be leaving Perth to meet his love match at another zoo, or you can get to know our 12 Orang-utans and find out about Perth Zoo's efforts to release these gentle giants to the jungles of Sumatra."
As part of the Close Encounters programme, Perth Zoo has launched two new experiences - 'Bush Buddies' and 'Scaly Mates' which get you close to the Woma Pythons, Echidnas, wallabies and an orphaned Quokka which was nursed back to health by Perth zoo keepers."The great thing about these two new experiences is that they have no age restrictions, so the whole family can enjoy them together," said Danielle.
