Cold Nights, Hot Food, Cool Sounds
This winter certainly started with a blast of cold wet weather and it looks set to continue, but bad weather is no excuse to hibernate. For the second year on the last Friday of each winter month, the Winter Supper Club offers a sheltered spot in the city to grab a bite to eat or a hot drink and listen to some great music.
The Winter Supper Club is a smaller version of the very popular Twilight Hawkers Market held during the summer months. In the cosy confines of the Town Hall Undercroft and with an emphasis on hearty winter fare, the Supper Club has a charm all of its own.
When I visited last year there was a very good jazz trio playing in the alcove near the entrance, which set the tone for a relaxing wander around the various food stalls. The undercroft space isn't overly large, so it was agreeably crowded and filled with warm and spicy cooking aromas. There was a variety of seating and a buzz of people coming and going from late shopping. It was a great opportunity to catch up with friends who work in the city and as a bonus there was a free art exhibition upstairs.

The food choices may vary but expect to find winter favourites like sausages, mulled wine, hot chestnuts and other sweet and savoury treats.
