Many of us Perthites like to hibernate in winter. Let's face it - with our gorgeous beaches and the beautiful Swan River, we are a city of summer loving folk.

However, when the City of Perth comes to the party once again with the Winter Arts Festival, I must admit to getting pretty excited. Hibernate no more!

Our City comes alive each Winter Festival and this year will feature over 130 free and ticketed events across theatre, music, comedy, cabaret, dance, film, literature, family and visual arts.

Highlights of this year's festival include The Caucasian Chalk Circle - Black Swan State Theatre's first international collaboration with the National Theatre of China; the musical, Little Shop of Horrors at His Majesty's Theatre, and 'OUR land people stories' - a new contemporary dance work by Bangarra Dance Theatre.

The Winter ArtsBar will transform a tunnel under St Georges Terrace with multimedia projections and live performances; the Perth Town Hall will host Winter Supper Club - a monthly international food market with a serving of live music; and intimate, lounge-style comedy and cabaret will take place at Downstairs at The Maj.

Quirky pop culture events include a graphic art exhibition Comic Tragics at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, and Scooby-Doo Live! Level Up - an interactive live show at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre.
