It's showtime once again from Saturday, September 23 to Saturday, September 30. Yes, it can be an expensive day, but if you're prepared, you can have a great day while sticking to a budget.

The basics
Take your own food and drinks.
Take public transport because parking near the showgrounds will be expensive.
Get your tickets early so you can get a discount. Find out more here .

The animals
There are so many animals to see at the Perth Royal Show and it's free to see them all. Here are some of the highlights:

You can cheer on the racing and diving pigs. Shows are on every day near gate 8 at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 3.30pm and 5pm.

There are six opportunities a day to see cows being milked in the WA Dairy Pavilion. Get along at 9.30am, 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 3.30pm and 5pm.

The Creatures Great and Small exhibit is a must see. There you can see rabbits, guinea pigs, real pigs, alpacas, chickens, goats, sheep and even camels! You can pat lots of the animals and it's open from 9am till 6pm every day.

The free entertainment
Check out the entertainment at the show, because it's free and it's a great chance to rest your feet. This year, there are some great attractions for thrill seekers like Team D-Max Precision Driving. There will be two shows daily in the Main Arena at 1.10pm at 7.30pm. (Bet it will look even better at night time!)

There'll also be some daring stunts on two wheels with the Eljay Freestyle show which combines bikes and motorbikes with comedy. It's on daily at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm in the Eljay Freestyle area, which is close to the Kiddie Area.

And you'll want to find out what Dance of the Drones is all about. It's been billed as a 'light and technology attraction that will grab the attention of every child, teenager, mum & dad.. everyone!'. See it in the Main Arena at 7.15pm every evening.

Cheap rides
Rides can cost a fortune for minutes of fun, but there's a special deal where you can get two-for-one rides in Kiddie Land if you buy your tickets between 3pm and 4pm at the Carnival Amusements Ashton by gate 10. Any tickets you buy will be valid till 7pm that day.

The rides include the Runaway Train Rollercoaster, Storm, Fiesta Balloon, Jurassic Temple, Taxi Jets, Cup & Saucer and Mini Ferris Wheel.

Follow the Yellow Brick Road
This is a good alternative to expensive showbags. If you follow the Yellow Brick Road you'll follow a trail all over the showgrounds where you'll pick up a fruit, a cheese toastie and smoothie and get involved in a bunch of different activities including help paint the giant wall mural, fly a drone, milk a cow and get your face painted.

Fireworks
Everyone loves fireworks and it's a great way to finish your day at the Perth Royal Show. If you're there on Saturday, September 23, the display is from 8.15pm (after the opening ceremony). For all the other nights, it's at 8pm.
