Five Perth Playgrounds That Are Fenced

Some parents have kids who are 'runners' so when they go to a playground, the knowledge that there's a fence keeping their rugrats from the road gives them peace of mind. Here are five playgrounds around Perth where you'll find that all important barrier.

Mueller Park, Subiaco

This is one of my all-time favourite playgrounds for little kids. It's not too big so you can actually sit down and enjoy a takeaway coffee while still keeping an eye on your littlies. The play equipment is most suitable for kids under about six.



There's a small fort with two junior slides, a cool kinda round, netted thing (see photo above) to swing on plus a water play area. And you can talk to your friends across the other side of the playground by finding the matching colours (see photo below).


Mueller Park is located between Patersons Stadium and Princess Margaret Hospital and it has lots of shade. The only problem can be parking. Look for a spot on Coghlan or Subiaco Roads.

Yokine Reserve**

Yokine Reserve had a makeover in 2012 and the result was a brilliant playground with a... wait for it... double-fence entry. There's a beautiful, big, shady tree that is the centrepiece of the fort area plus musical things to play with like the drums and xylophone.



There's a rock wall to climb on, slides to zip down and lots to investigate at this playground. While there are a lot of trees, some bigger than others, you'll need to remember the sunscreen because some parts aren't shaded. Head to Wordsworth Avenue in Yokine to check it out.



Rotary Park, Wanneroo

Yes there's a fence but you're probably going to want to follow your kids around Rotary Park to keep watch over them because this park is huge! It caters for lots of different levels and the feature structure has things to climb up and slide down.



It's a popular spot for birthday parties and usually pretty busy on the weekends. To find it, set the GPS to Scenic Drive, Wanneroo. You can have a picnic or have a barbeque. And there's usually a mobile coffee van in the carpark too.



Faulkner Park, Belmont

Faulkner Park is the one a lot of people call the Volcano Park because the main feature is a big pretend volcano. There's also a flying fox for the bigger kids and a special toddler area for the littlest ones.



One of the nicest things about this playground is that there's lots of shade thanks to the big shade sails. There's also plenty of room for your picnic so grab a hot chicken and some bread rolls on the way and voilà, you have lunch and entertainment. You'll find Faulkner Park on Abernethy Road in Belmont.

Woodbridge Riverside Play Space

It might be a little bit of a drive to get to, but it's worth heading to Woodbridge (which is just past Guildford). When it was revamped in 2012, the idea was to make it suitable for all abilities. That's why you'll find one flying fox for the big, brave kids and a safer one for little kids. There's also special equipment for people in wheelchairs.



Other features of the park are pirate ships, water play and sand play and lots of native plants. Like Rotary Park, the playground is a big one so although there's a fence, you'll need to follow your little kids around. To find it, look for First Avenue, Woodbridge.
