A Festival of Queer Films Worth Seeing
This is the second Perth International Queer Film Festival, or PIQFF as it is known and Curtin Uni will be teaming with The Backlot in West Perth. This year, it will be lengthened to nine nights and feature a range of Australian short and feature films, as well as international films. Over 1200 filmmakers submitted films for the 2017 programme and the festival is a fundraising initiative of the WA AIDS Council.

You will be able to see premieres and some of the most amazing queer films from:

One of the short films will be a Mexican one entitled Velociraptor and this will be screened on the 19th September, 2017 at 7.30 pm, at Curtin University Bently Campus, near Angazi cafe in Wesfarmers Court.

This film is gay-themed and is about the world which is on the verge of imminent apocalypse. Long days and probable death make people do strange things. Under these circumstances, families either get closer to one another or they desert each other in the hope of some kind of redemption as society crumbles and slowly dismantles.

SATYAVATI (INDIA)
DEEPTHI TADANKI (director) INDIA
This Australian premiere film is fiction and not a documentary and the main reason for making this film is to let the audience understand that lesbianism is not a disease that needs to be cured; it is as natural as heterosexuality.

This film is not attempting to disrespect any culture or tradition of any clan or belief, however if the film manages to open a debate about the tragic realities that it tells about, this could hopefully change the mindset of at least a few individuals, and then it could be termed a success.

Also screening with this movie are Typical Couple (Slovenia) and The 3rd Try (USA).
