Perth International Comedy Festival 2013

May is comedy month in Perth with some of the country's and world's favourite comedians heading west for the Perth International Comedy Festival.

150 performers, 50 events, 19 days - we're in for a treat.

The Astor Theatre in Mount Lawley will be the main hub of comedic action with other venues close by.

Not to be missed Comedy Festival shows

Let's be honest, all of the acts in the festival are bound to have you in stitches, but here are my top picks.

Opening Night Gala

Launch into May and the Comedy Festival at the Opening Night Gala on 1 May. With all the international and local big names including Eddie Ifft, Pajama Men, Paul Foote, Gina Yashere, Craig Hill, Justin Hamilton, Suns of Fred and many, many more; if there's one event you want to make it to, it's the Opening Night Gala.

7:30pm at Astor Theatre for two hours of non-stop laughs.

Eddie Ifft will be at the Gala - will you?

International Comedy Bowls - FREE

Head down to the Mount Lawley Bowling Club on 5 May @ 2:00pm to watch some of your favourite comedians battle it out bowls style against some of our local media personalities. Local comedians John Robertson and Werzel will be MCing the big afternoon of bowling fun. In last year's event, the media team won so this year the comedians are aiming to reign supreme. Come down and cheer them on. It's free and what else are you really doing that Sunday arvo?

Next Gen Comedy

Last year I went to one of the Next Gen shows and loved it. it's an amateur comedy competition, five heats, two semifinals and one big grand finale - where you vote for who goes through. And the prize for the lucky amateur local? A spot on the big stage at the Astor in the Festival Finale. Shows start 7:45pm, 8-11 and 15-18 May at The Laugh Locker.

Comedy Allsorts - Local Comedy Showcase

So you've been to a Next Gen show, but you want more. Love local? Support local. Stick around and check out some of the finest, hand-picked, Perth grown and honed talent. Featuring Matt Jan, Tien Tran, Corey White, Adam Peter Scott and many more local acts to tickle your funny bones. Shows start 9:15pm, 8-11 and 15-18 May at The Laugh Locker after Next Gen Comedy.

What's that? Local funny man Tien Tran has had Perth in fits!

Festival Finale

The Festival Finale is set to send the 19 day giggle fest out with a bang. If Perth local Peter Rowsthorn (of Kath and Kim fame) as MC wasn't enough, enter Stephen K Amos, Hannah Gadsby, Joel Creasy, Lawrence Mooney, Jimmy McGhie and more still to be announced. And there'll be awards. Best of the Fest, Best International Act, Best Australian Act, Critics' Choice Award and Peoples' Choice Award. Show starts at 7:30pm, 19 May at Astor Theatre.

Stephen K Amos is back on Perth shores to give you a giggle
