Many things have changed in the world since I was a child. Fashions and fads have come and gone, while many of the games and hobbies that children enjoy so much now were completely unheard of back in those days. However, one kind of event that has never gone out of fashion, for children and adults alike, is the humble spring fair and this spring here in Perth we have a dazzling assortment of fetes, fairs, festivals and carnivals to choose from.



Without a doubt one of the most exciting of these events would have to be the Perth College Fete that is coming up very soon on Sunday, November 3rd. The fact that this fete is held only once every three years makes it all the more exciting, not just for current and former students, but also for the wider community.

Established way back in 1902, Perth College is one of the oldest and most respected girls' schools here in Perth. Similarly, its triennial fete is one of the most exciting and innovative in the Perth metro area, and is a great spot to entertain the family on a Sunday morning or perhaps even do some early Christmas shopping at one of the many original and creative market stalls.

This year the Perth College Fete is bigger and better than ever before with over 120 great stalls and fabulous entertainment for guests, young and old. Some of these stalls are truly unique to the college, so be sure to come along and check them out. While some old favourites will be there such as second-hand books and clothes, plants and handicrafts, according the College's website there are also some booths with startlingly original names like Friends of Music, Glamour Puss, Heart of Glass, Secondhand Ballgowns and Dinner Dance Dresses, Perth College Fancy Stall, Adopt a Teddy Bear or Doll, Decorated Hats and the Little House of Vintage. Since many of the students come from country regions, there is even a Boarders' Country Stall, and the local Mount Lawley Historical Society will also be represented. Of course, there are many other stalls as well - too many to list in a short article like this. A wide range of refreshments are also available.

If it's entertainment that you're looking for, the Perth College Fete is also offering oodles of amusements for people of all ages. For arty sorts, the popular Paint-a-Parasol people will be there to nourish your creativity, while those who enjoy more extreme pursuits may get a buzz from the Gladiator Duels, Bucking Bull and a groovy 4-in-1 Bungee Trampoline. Other cool stuff includes badge making, bubble making, two bouncy castles, a climbing wall, a dunking tank, face-painting, fairy grotto, count-the-teddies, fire engine fun, haunted house, Jelly-Goo Lucky Dip, Wheel of Fortune, treasure dig, pony rides, funky hair, nail studio, temporary tattoos, cuddly animal farm and a silent auction. As I mentioned earlier, the Perth College Fete isn't 'just' another school fete. With an imaginative line-up of over 120 stalls, this year's event is taking school fund-raising to a whole new level.

In a nutshell, whether you're looking for a bit of light-hearted family entertainment, a chance to do some Christmas shopping or just want to wander through to see what's happening, the Perth College Fete promises to be a terrific day out for all. Situated in the grounds of the College at 31 Lawley Crescent in Mount Lawley, the fete will begin at 10.00am and continue until approximately 4.00pm.
