I didn't really know much about where I was going on a Saturday morning recently, except that it was a market in East Perth. I soon discovered it was much more than that as explained by a staff member of Perth City Farm who greeted us on arrival.
The market which is open 8am-12pm each Saturday incorporates produce from growers that are organic, biodynamic, in organic conversion or who farm ethically and sustainably. A range of other stallholders are also there with organic and homemade products.
Another aspect of the urban farm is the community garden. You can walk through the extensive permaculture vegetable garden and pick up ideas for your own, including materials you might utilise or possible layouts. Volunteers are encouraged to join in as part of the focus on fostering partnerships with the community. Educational workshops are organised through the year particularly in regard to sustainable food production.

Breakfast is also catered for at the cafe (solar powered). Much of the menu uses free range and organic produce and there is an extensive menu including freshly baked cakes and muffins. The cafe has a great open atmosphere and I can highly recommend the coffee (Rubra). Opening hours are weekdays 7am-3pm and weekends 7am-12pm.

Various venue spaces are available for hire including exhibition, commercial kitchen, courtyard and market spaces according to your particular event.
So then you can see that Perth City Farm is much more than a market and is particularly impressive especially when you consider that the area has been transformed from what was originally a scrap metal site and battery recycling plant.
Iwas wondering if there was a subsidy to keep this place open .If there is ,so not worth the tax payers money .the courses are not well organized and so not worth the money.these places should be run by volunteers and non paying staff or maybe able disable folks ,then it would worth it.
My kids participated in a GREAT holiday program here! And it was well organized AND lunch came out of the organic garden. Was totally amazed by the woodcraft they brought home too. Great to see them improving things.
