The inaugural Smarter than Smoking Perth Basant Festival takes place on Saturday 17th October 2015 between 11am to 5pm at the Curtin Stadium at Curtin University on Kent Street, Bentley.

Proudly organised by the So Change Inc and supported by many different cultural associations and communities, this free and not-for-profit multicultural festival marks the coming of Spring and its connections to new beginnings and change. So Change Inc is an organisation working with and providing services to newly arrived and established migrants and refugees to settle into the community and call it home.

Fittingly, the Perth Basant Festival celebrates and showcases the brilliant diversity of Western Australia's multiculturalism, incorporating the mixture of music, arts, food, culture and people that brings us all together in this huge melting pot of communities.

There is a huge program of events and activities that make up the festival, as well as over 100 food and market stalls offering arts and crafts, workshops, presentations, fashion, food and quality produce. Sample the world's cuisines from a vast range of multicultural food stalls from around the globe, including South African, Malaysian, Philippines, Chinese, Brazilian, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Lebanon and much more.

Visitors can enjoy live music and performances from over 15 groups on the festival stage, presenting everything from folk, rock and pop to Indigenous Australian music, Punjabi dhol beats, African drumming circles and Indian, Middle Eastern and Malaysian dance groups. Families with children can look forward to a whole host of family-friendly activities including kite making and flying classes, children's entertainment and rides, bouncy castles, henna and face painting.

The Perth Basant Festival promises to be a day of colour and fun, with approximately 10,000 people from all walks of life are expected to attend on the day. Participating in the festival is a perfect way to embrace the rich, varied and growing culture that is adding to Perth's vibrancy.
