All aboard the airport train
In November 2016, a huge new construction project began in Perth. After years of discussion about cost and design, the rail line to the airport was to become a reality. Perth residents may remember the two giant tunnel boring machines, one of which was nicknamed Sandy, short for "sandgroper". They probably also remember the problems and delays, however, all that is in the past. The Airport Line officially opens on Sunday 9 October with a big party and everyone is invited.

The $1.86 billion Airport Line was jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian governments. As well as serving the airport, the new line will improve transport for residents of the eastern suburbs. In the first year of operation, it is expected to generate 20,000 passenger trips every day. Detailed information about the new stations can be found here:

The High Wycombe and Redcliffe stations will be the entertainment centre for the day. Visitors can enjoy a free sausage sizzle, showbags, face painting and rides. Entertainment includes live music and animal farms for the kids. There will also be food and drink for sale.
