Immerse yourself in the mystical Persian culture at
Persian Fair , held on the historic grounds of the Abbotsford Convent this Sunday 22 April.
The many stalls will also be showcasing a wide variety of Persian treasures, with hand-crafted plates and potteries, and spice, and sweet stalls. Persian cuisine will also be a highlight of the day with grilled meats, kebabs and much more.
Throughout the day, listen to the traditional sounds of music, featuring instruments such as the stringed santoor, and be mesmerised by the dancer performers. There will also be music and dance lessons on the day for those more inclined to participate.
And of course, it wouldn't be a Persian Fair without carpets, which are a dominant feature in the Persian culture. Gain insight into the art of carpet weaving, and if you're feeling inspired you can even participate in a carpet auction on the day. Interestingly, the intricately embroidered carpets were not just used for decoration but have their place in history as being a medium for disseminating art and literature.
This will be the first Persian fair organised by the Australian Iranian Association of Victoria, and if you enjoyed the State Library's Persian exhibition, then this fair will only heighten your appreciation of the rich Persian culture and history.
There is a $2 entry fee.
