Perk up with some great food and drink
For that quaint cafe feel with shopping centre convenience, Perks Kitchen is the place to be. Located in the impressive restaurant precinct of Westfield Garden City, Perks Kitchen offers one of the only true cafe experiences in the bustling piazza.

Open seven days a week, Perks Kitchen has a range of breakfast, lunch and dinner dining options. We stopped by on a recent Sunday morning for a spot of breakfast. The cafe has some shaded outdoor tables which are always appealing, but given the mercury was already nudging 30 degrees, we opted to sit indoors in air-conditioned comfort. Being a Sunday morning the cafe was naturally busy but the food service was pretty swift and the noise wasn't such that we couldn't hear each other talk. The other diners may not have thought the same of our toddler who was getting a bit antsy about waiting for her breakfast.

From our party of five, three adults opted for the scrambled eggs on multigrain sourdough with chipotle chutney. It wasn't huge but should satisfy normal appetites. Or, you could follow my husband's lead and add a couple of hash browns on the side. A slightly more adventurous soul went for the crispy zucchini and corn fritters with avocado smash, bacon and vine tomato salsa (with two fried eggs added in for good measure). Visually, this dish was a stunner and, by all reports, delivered in the flavour department too. The toddler had the scrambled eggs on toast off the kids' menu which she dove into with both hands before anyone could mention the word "cutlery".

If the breakfast choices were a tiny bit limited, the same could not be said about the drinks section. Between us, we had a latte (made with Campos coffee - always a winner in my book), coffee frappe, banana smoothie, and a banana smoothie laced with a shot of coffee. All drinks were excellent with the exception of the frappe which was reportedly "too icy". Some other interesting drinks on offer included a beetroot latte and homemade guava iced tea.

For the benefit of non-morning people, the breakfast menu is served all day. There's also an adequate range of lunch and dinner choices, including burgers, steaks, risottos, seafood, and vegetarian offerings. Keep an eye on the Perks Kitchen Facebook page as they regularly offer specials such as two-for-one mains.

We will definitely be returning to eat and drink our way through the menu.
