Thanks to a preseason snow dump, Perisher Resort is opening this weekend. This is snow ordinary season (here come the snow puns). Over 75cm of snow has fallen making this early opening one for the history books. Front Valley is open along with Village Eight Express and a carpet ride for the beginners, too. Snow School is also open this weekend with lessons to cater for all levels.

Jax Cafe & Chargrill and Ski Rock Cafe are also open this weekend for your midday refreshments, or for those who prefer to window watch the activity on the slopes.

If the early season opening was not enough warning for you to organise yourself to the fields, fear not, next weekend is the best kind: a long weekend. It was also meant to be the official opening weekend and the Perisher Ski Tube and return Shuttle Services to Smiggin will start running from the long weekend. Peak Music Festival is also returning to Perisher for its 11th year. Held over four days from June 7th - 10th with local and international talent including Kwame, Kristy Lee, Ash Grunwald, True Vibenation and more than 30 acts, set across 10 live stages throughout the resort, Peak Music Festival is promising everyone will find music to enjoy.

There are full 4-day festival passes available at the early bird rate of $155 which include access to all concerts. Alp yourself (did you get it?) with scenic chairlift rides where you will experience birds-eye views of snow-capped peaks - these rides are unlimited on the Perisher Quad Chair with your 4-day pass. Single day or evening passes are also available. Children under 14 are free with a full paying adult. Head to Peak Music Festival for more information and to buy tickets.

On Saturday 8th of June, everyone at Perisher can experience the magic of the fireworks display that will light up the skies over the Front Valley.

For those riders who are snow joke, Perisher Rail Rampage Jam will also be held on the long weekend. On Sunday 9th of June, at Slopestyle Park Front Valley, skiers and snowboarders aged 6 and up are invited to show off their skills. The events are jam style format rail jams allowing creativity and style to reign. If you do not know what any of that means, you should probably stick to spectating. Those on the sidelines still experience a thrill watching the talent compete for best in snow and a selection of prizes from Skullcandy and Volcom. Competitors must wear a helmet, which makes sense to me.

The weekend will also provide face painting for the kids. The intriguingly named Dan Druff the Clown will cruise around the resort on his unicycle with entertainment and tricks up his sleeve. I think balancing on a unicycle in the snow would be skilful enough, however, most kids I know are seemingly hard to impress.

Long weekends usually mean one less day of school for students, however Snow School is open all long weekend and it's a good opportunity for everyone to hone in their skills.

Perisher has so much to offer this June long weekend and you'll find yourself going back to work or school with plenty of snaps and stories for snow and tell.
