As assignment due dates loom closer and closer I find myself resorting to old habits - procrastination. I will do anything rather than complete an assignment. I have some vintage techniques in accomplishing this, but due to my recent increase in procrastination I have had to come up with some new ones.

The time to study has begun, however I need to do something first...
1. Snack
I find the best way to avoid doing something is to remember that I need to indulge my taste buds in some delicious snacks. And honestly, who can do something while they're eating anyway?

After your big feed you have to do some exercise. You can't possibly sit down at your desk all day and work through that 2000 word assignment.

2. Exercise
Whether you hit the gym, go for a run or find a fun play mate to adventure your local park with, no matter what exercise you do it's going to burn some calories and waste an hour or so.

Now it's time to work. Think again!

4. Brain Strength
What's that at the back of your desk? Its that rubix cube you could never solve. Obviously now is the time to test your skills! This technique can be very effective on patient people, however on most it is only effective for about 10 minutes before you realise why it was hidden at the back of your desk under all of your books.

4. Combination Time
If you still feel you need to test your mind a perfect way to combine 2 and 3 is to jump in the pool! If you are fortunate enough to have a pebbled floor to your pool, your mind is in for a treat. Count the number of pebbles in your pool. Or perhaps calculate the length of the pool in a common dimension, like handprints.

5. The Classics
All those movies you used to watch, those TV shows you need to finish? It is time to watch them now. Because remember, you can do your assignments anyday but these can only be seen right now. Some of the most addictive movies and TV shows: Friends, Blue Mountain State, Harry Potter series, Almost Famous and Regular Show. This form of procrastination is happily married to technique 1, snacking.

6. Pamper Yourself!
That's right, take that long shower you deserve. Use your special, luxury bath oils and salts to indulge in a relaxing bath. Face masks, painting your nails and brushing your hair are also fabulous ways to waste some more minutes.

6. House Work
Right about now you start to realise that you have accomplished nothing all day. So you decide, yet again not to study, but to do some chores. That's right! Do the washing, vacuum, wash the dishes and clean your room. Completion of these tasks are not required to successfully procrastinate.

7. Get artistic
Whether its taking photos, drawing, painting or borrowing your neighbours gurney to write your name on the concrete behind your pool, its worth it. Get those creative juices flowing!

8. Good Old Gaming
Remember your Nintendo 64? Gameboy Advance? Nintendo DS? Play Station? Whip that game console out and get in touch with your inner child. If you were unlucky enough to sell, throw out or have your console die on you, grab your computer or phone. They are filled with games and apps to become addicted to. Jetpack Joyride, Solitaire and Super Mario are to only name a few.

9. Spring Cleaning
It might not be Spring, but it sure is time to go through all of your worldly possessions and decide which to toss, donate or sell. Be warned, if you are going to do this I suggest you do it before you start any house work - we don't want to waste any time now do we?

10. See your friends
So what your assignment is due tomorrow? Catch up with that old childhood friend you haven't seen since yesterday! It is high time we start putting more effort into socialising rather than education!
