Just the name of Pentridge is enough to put a chill in one's mind and soul - it has such connotations of an infamous prison! However there is now a new reason for you to visit Pentridge. It is now the site of a new farmers' market and artisans market.
Every Sunday the infamous grounds of Pentridge play host to this wonderful iconic market and to add a really unique twist to this, the produce and craft will be sold from its very prison cells and the outdoors surrounds. Now that's certainly something to get you and your friends talking.
Bring the kids along to enjoy a farmers' market whilst explaining to them the colourful history of the location.
Pentridge was built in 1850 and was closed as a prison in 1997, It still stands as a historic bluestone complex, which now begins a very new chapter and hopefully with very different memories.
Much of Pentridge has now been developed into housing apartments and businesses, and in division 13 you will find this wonderful weekly market with such an interesting array of artisan wares.
You can share some organic hot soup while you are wandering around or perhaps enjoy some unique Australian snacks and a good coffee. Prison life never looked so good!
To add a twist, in this fun new section, there will also be a range of Melbourne's buskers - where they can share their talent with you and entertain the kids and market shoppers alike.
The Pentridge Farmers' and Artisans market is held every Sunday and is located at Division 13, Urquahart Street, Coburg.
It has free entry.
Open every Sunday from 9 AM to 2 PM.
