Patisserie with pastries to die for
I recently stumbled across this quaint patisserie in Norton Street, Leichardt and it has now become a place I visit frequently as the pastries here are so good and the service so friendly I have to keep coming back.
It has always been a dream of Pastry Chef, Owner, Penny Ransley to have a place of her own and although Penny Fours only recently Swung open its doors, it has already got a regular following and wholesale business. Penny has worked at the likes of Bennelong, Establishment, Boathouse and Iggy's Bakery to name a few, where she has been able to hone in on her skills and learn the scientific techniques of a Pastry Chef.
The choice is difficult when going to Penny Fours, as there are so many beautiful pastries to choose from. From Penny's signature meringue spiked lemon tarts, beautiful rose jellies to sticky buns and crispy croissants; I usually head straight to the brioche as the sour cream and mascarpone filled brioche with brown sugar topping is to die for. Today they were sold out and so I sampled the chocolate hazelnut brioche instead. Filled with delectable chocolate custard and crunchy toffee coated hazelnuts, I was not disappointed. A pity it is going straight to my hips. At least I have made my calories worthwhile.
