Visit the hidden tea gardens by the river
Perched on the banks of the Swan River in a secluded setting, the Peninsula Tea Gardens in Maylands is one of the local's best kept secrets.

The best way to access the Tea Gardens is to park at Tranby House and take the short stroll along the cycle path. The scene is set with the river by your side, lush green lawns and as you approach the quaint entry gate, you are welcomed by a traditional well-kept garden and tables set and scattered in and around the building, across the courtyard that spills onto the river's edge.

The specialty offered by the Tea Gardens is a Parisian Afternoon Tea which for $33 (or $38 on weekends) you will be served an assortment of finger sandwiches, scones and petite fours on a 3 tiered stand with fine-bone China and silverware. Loose leaf tea, coffee and other refreshments are also served as part of the menu. The Parisian Afternoon Tea is the perfect choice for a baby shower, kitchen tea or celebrating a special occasion with friends and family. Champagne is BYO and bookings are a must.

Lighter afternoon tea packages are also available plus a range of salads, quiches, frittatas and steak sandwiches are also on the lunch menu for those wanting a meal. And of course, delicious cakes line the display cabinet to accompany your tea and coffee, available at any time throughout the day.

With no nearby roads and only grass between the Tea Gardens and the river, it is the perfect place to sit back and soak up the tranquility of the setting whilst watching the boats pass by. The lovely large gum trees also provide ample shade on warm afternoons.

The Peninsula Tea Gardens are open daily from 8am to 5pm, including public holidays. Further information can be found on their website
Whilst you are there, you may wish to stroll over to Tranby House for a historical tour of one of the earliest residences still standing in Perth. Combine this with the secluded walking trail/cycle path and nearby playground (about 10min stroll down the path) this is a wonderful way to enjoy a peaceful morning or afternoon.
