Char kuey teow is one of the famous street dishes in Penang. It consists of flat rice noodle strips stir-fried with various toppings such as shrimps, cockles, eggs, bean sprouts and Chinese dried sausages. It has a distinctive taste unique to this part of the country and is available almost everywhere. My go-to though is a stall in Kafe Joo Hooi coffee shop located at 475 Jalan Penang.

Penang Road Famous Jin Kor Char Kuey Teow has been around for many years and was recently awarded the MICHELIN Bib Gourmand for good quality and value cooking. Its specialty (and one and only dish) is, of course, the char kuey teow which has sufficient 'wok hei' (charred aroma) flavoured by a well-seasoned wok over high heat. Options for the egg include either chicken or duck. I chose duck egg and was not disappointed with the added punch it delivered.
