A new and much-welcomed bistro has opened in Goolwa. It's located right next to stunning Goolwa Beach in the Surf Life Saving Clubrooms.

Goolwa Surf Life Saving Club
Pelican Bistro opens Thursday - Saturday from midday until 9pm and Sunday from midday until 6pm. I thought I'd go along for a drink and a snack before committing to an entire dinner. I invited a friend along for my reconnaissance visit.
A bottle of chilled Rosé seemed like a good idea so we ordered and slowly sipped while I considered the tapas menu. Greek-style chips with feta, oregano and aioli, a duo of dips, garlic bread and marinated olives were options but I decided on
Kiliko Kepthedes. My decision was based on the fact that I liked the name and I hadn't tried them before.
I was also enjoying the Greek theme and, for a moment, was transported in my mind to a small island in Greece with similar wine, similar food and similar sea views. Greek music was missing in this instance.

The
Kiliko Kepthedes arrived; grilled zucchini balls filled with dill, lemon, feta and parsley, drizzled with a zesty yoghurt dressing. A tasty snack to accompany our Rosé.

The Bistro has proved a popular dining option since it opened around the end of last year and there were plenty of eager diners during our visit.

Plenty of diners at Pelican Bistro
The menu offers seaside favourites including fish and chips, burgers and schnitzels as well as local specialities including a seafood chowder and Pipi Vongole featuring local Goolwa cockles. The Lamb Shank looked tempting and the sides included a selection of gourmet salads.

Cakes and desserts are a speciality here also and there were plenty to choose from. The Bistro offers good coffee to accompany the cake selection.

The view from the clubrooms is exceptional and I enjoyed watching patrols finish and beachgoers pack up at the end of their day.

The end of the day
We left before sunset but the colours would have been glorious across the sky and the venue is the perfect location to bear witness to this regular spectacle.
