Want designer shoes for less than half price? Read this
Do you have Louboutin tastes, but Payless Shoes pockets? Peep Toe Shoes' warehouse sale events are the apex of the shoe shopping calendar. The stuff of legend for those Imelda Marcos types who like me, have Louboutin tastes, but Payless Shoes pockets.
Held twice or three times per year, over three days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), not only do you get to stand around in a huge warehouse full of nothing but shoes (I literally felt like I'd died and gone to shoe heaven), but you also get to snap up said shoes for up to 75% less than their usual retail price. Bargain. An added bonus is that the sale also features bags and accessories, so it's a real one-stop Peep Toe shop.
The quiet before the storm - Peep Toe Shoes warehouse sale, before the hoards hit
Now, before you shoe lovers out there start salivating into your keyboards at the thought of all that purple-soled loveliness, I should point out that it's not all glitz and glamour.
Firstly, it's a warehouse sale, so the surroundings are nothing like the sumptuous glamour that you've come to expect from the stores. The large hall in St Kilda Town Hall is something of a cross between a church hall and an RSL, complete with hideous gaudy RSL carpet They make an effort to pretty it up with some mirrors and a few seats, but as they say, you can't put lipstick on a pig (well you can, but it will just look like a pig in lipstick).

Secondly, the queues are horrendous. Think the release of the latest iPhone, plus women, heels and glitter. Parking is also pretty hairy, being in the middle of one of Melbourne's trendiest suburbs so, I'd advise using public transport to get there if you possibly can. Do yourself a favour - jump on a tram or a train, and avoid getting a parking ticket. I love shoes, but I love saving money more, so getting a ticket whilst buying bargain shoes just doesn't make "chiconomic" sense.
The most obvious downside (one you can probably guess from the aforementioned queues and parking issues) though, is that with deals as good as this, shoe fans flock from far and wide to get their fill. These sales get busy. With a capital "please don't elbow me in the ribs", so be prepared for some less than ladylike behaviour from your fellow shoppers.
The best way to find out about the sales is to either subscribe to Peep Toe's newsletter via their website, or follow them on facebook. Details of the sales are normally released around two weeks in advance.
