Regardless of whether you pronounce it 'peck-a-culture' or 'Pe-cha-coo-cha', if you want to find out what sort of works are being produced by Brisbane creatives, come to the next 'pecking' event held on the 14th of September at the Brisbane Powerhouse.

Pecha Kucha is a forum for designers, artists, architects and interactive media to present their works for 6 minutes and 40 seconds. Being cursed with a short attention span, the 6 minute 40 second rule is perfect as it guarantees I will listen to at least half of the presentation before tuning out. I do have a genuine interest in creative projects but in a social context and on a school night, I like to mix the culture with some drinks and bar food. Bar Alto has a wide range of drinks and a reasonable bar menu. The zucchini fritters was a nice change from the usual potato wedges.

Another incentive is that some of the creative projects have specific relevance to times, events and locations in Brisbane. I know I do harp on a lot about supporting local creative industry but at the last Pecha Kucha event it was interesting to see people's creative response to the Brisbane floods.

The next Pecha Kucha event is still more than a month away so the line up hasn't been finalised yet. However keep your eyes on this site for more information.
