Perfect Lotus Flowers at Sandstone Point
In Australia we don't often see lotus flowers blooming. In recent years it has been easier to see them, and when I discovered a wonderful lake full of these stunning flowers I was thrilled. I have visited the place often during flowering season in the last couple of years, and I am currently checking out the lake, waiting for the buds to push their way up from the water midst the huge leaves.
Lotus Leaves in the Lake
It was quite by accident that I discovered this precious place that has waterlilies and lotus growing, and December and January is the right time to go and discover this wonder.
Water Birds Explore the Lily Pads
The lake is in a park beside the IGA at Pebble Beach Common, Bestman Road, Sandstone Point. If you go now (November) you will see little more than huge new leaves pushing up from the water, and waterlily pads floating on the surface. It is a haven for waterbirds too – and a great place for photographers! In December the buds and flowers will appear.
The beautiful lotus bud rises from the water, and then slowly opens out to reveal a most perfect flower, which is why it is so treasured by the Hindus. You can read about that here and here.
