Peats Ridge Sustainable Arts and Music Festival 2012/13

[ADVERT]You've done the harbour, done the fireworks, so why not try out a different way to celebrate New Year's? Peats Ridge Sustainable Arts and Music Festival runs from Saturday December 29 to Tuesday January 1, offering Sydney-siders not just one night, but three days of celebration.

There will be a whole lot of music, arts and culture at the festival, as well as an emphasis on sustainability and camping, and it all takes place in the beautiful Glenworth Valley , which is pretty popular throughout the rest of the year too, with its horse riding, quad biking, camping, swimming and walks.

One of the main attractions of the Peats Ridge Festival is the massive line-up of musicians that will be playing. Almost one hundred acts will be there, including John Butler Trio . A full list of performers can be found here .

In addition to the music, there will also be more unusual forms of entertainment, including pretty much anything you could dream up. That means roving performers, contortionists, sword-swallowers, interactive installations, films, mask-making, a chance to learn circus tricks and much, much more. There will even be a Tent City full of Frida Kahlo lookalikes!

At the Eco-Living Village, you can learn the latest information on sustainability. There will also markets, a Drum and Dance Temple and a disco. At various workshops you can learn meditation, yoga, Pilates, poi spinning, Tai Chi, belly dancing, hula hooping and juggling, and also find out about raw food, bush tucker, balcony gardening, permaculture and so much more.

While the festivities go for days, New Year's Eve will still be a pretty special night, featuring a Fancy Dress Parade and a Fancy Dress Masquerade Party. The parade will begin at 7.00pm at the Eco Living Village (meet there at 6.45pm) and will finish at Bellbird Stage, where the best-dressed winners will be showcased.

The local Indigenous culture will also feature prominently, with Opening and Closing ceremonies in the Boardi space. The Opening Ceremony will include a smoking ceremony, acknowledgement of country and offerings to the great creator spirit, Baiyami and Mother Earth, Yhi. The Closing Ceremony will pay respects to the land and offer thanks to the traditional owners. There will also be cultural performances in the Boardi space throughout the festival, as well as a New Years Eve Corroboree with the Wollombi Dancers.

The Peats Ridge Festival is appropriate for families, with a special Children's Festival running within the main festival. Head to the Rainbow Garden if you have kids up to seven years old, or take the older kids to Kids on the Hill (all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). Your children will be occupied by shows and workshops from 8.30am and 5.00pm daily. Teenagers can also head to The Swamp for a place to chill out with music, dance and more.

The Peats Ridge Festival is a camping festival. You can bring your own tent or book a tepee in the Tepee Life village. Choose from two person, four person and six person teepees. Each comes with foam mattresses, a table, an LED night light and a mosquito net. All you need to do is bring the bedding.

Tickets for the festival include day passes ($145 for adults, along with booking fees) and season passes ($340 for adults, along with booking fees). Camping is only available for season pass holders, while one-day tickets are only available for Saturday December 29 and Sunday December 30, which means that you will need to buy a season pass if you want to enjoy New Year's Eve at the festival. Next year, get in early for cheaper tickets (these prices are for Final Release tickets). Tickets can be purchased online here . You can also purchase tickets (subject to availability) from the onsite Box Office.

To get to the festival, you can either drive (car pool if possible) or taking advantage of the shuttle bus operating between Hornsby Station and Peats Ridge. Once you're there, collect a program from the Information Booth so you can start figuring out how to fit everything into your stay.
