Imagine yourself, on a warm evening, sitting in the Rose Garden in the Adelaide Botanic Garden. The green, the pink, the red, the yellow of the beautiful flowers dancing in front of your eyes, the different scents filling the air... such a charming space. As the sun sets over the Conservatory, the little open-air theatre looks like a sacred garden where a secret is about to be shared. And as Tracy Crisp makes her way to the stage, it is almost like mortals and gods stopped the time, everything becomes quiet, we all blend in the décor and mother nature herself is part of the story to come.

Tracy Crisp explains to us that she's standing in the garden of her childhood home and as she describes the scene, in a few seconds the audience is transported in another time, in another place. Tracy Crisp talent for storytelling is undeniable. She has a way to make you part of her journey and to spark your imagination… I swear, I could see and smell the lavender growing in her mother's garden.

The way she describes her mother is absolutely delightful, entertaining, poetic... what an interesting character, perfect in her sweet imperfections... It is all happening in front of my eyes and suddenly I feel like her mother is there with us tonight too, standing in front of us, probably smoking and maybe having a smile of what is going on... probably amused.

As the story progresses, full of entertaining anecdotes and interesting details, the audience silently embraces every word, tone, pause, silence... the words become a beautiful melody... making the audience smile, laugh but also cry. I just can't get enough, I have to know, I don't miss a word of what is being told, it is like a quest, exploring this family's memories and finding out meaning and truth.

It is clever, beautifully written, humoristic, moving... it is about life, death, grief, family, values, purpose, memories, symbolic objects... it is about how we keep those who are gone alive in our mind and in our heart.

Pearls is a wonderful show, a beautiful outdoor play, an amazing tribute to our loved ones in the garden of roses... so poetic... it will leave you in a special state and maybe you will need a minute or two after the performance to come back to earth!

This beautiful story also carries a powerful message reminding us that life can be unpredictable, and time passes very quickly so it is important to make the most of every moment, seizing every opportunity to be happy and spend time with the ones we love.
