Melbourne's Shrine is welcoming families of holiday makers with an opportunity to make paper cranes in a collective meditation on peace.
Getting along with others is not always easy, but people all around the world continue to strive for creative and peaceful solutions to differences.
Located in the Visitors Centre, paper crane origami is being offered between Monday 25 September and Thursday 28 September, and then Monday 2 October to Friday 6 October. Sessions commence at 10.30am and run for one hour. It's a collective, hands-on meditation for peace. The Shrine is open daily from 10am until 5.00pm.
While there, children can learn how the Shrine was designed to remember the laying down of arms, and experience the Peace Gallery.
Origami, or the art of paper folding, is a centuries old mindfulness activity which is believed to have originated in Japan. This program has been designed with children aged 4 to 10 years in mind. Children must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
The Shrine Visitor Centre is located off Birdwood Avenue, Melbourne and can be accessed by train and tram via St Kilda Road. Light refreshments may be purchased from the Shrine shop, also located in the Visitor Centre. Baby change room facilities are available.
Bookings can be made by contacting the
Shrine of Remembrance directly.
