I've never been one to talk about food but I just had to share this because it was such a wonderful experience. in Nightcliff, NT has to be one of the best restaurants I have ever been to.

The mash up of fine dining with the full flavoured Australian food and companionship makes this a perfect place for nostalgic locals and tourists alike.

We arrived ten minutes before it opened and watched as it came to life. One by one, diners arrived and disappeared into the unassuming building surrounded by residential abodes.

Upon entering, a very charming gentleman welcomed us and showed us to a space by the window where flickering candlelight shimmered subtly from both within and out.

Despite fairly high raftered ceilings, the place felt intimate and I was excited to see the corrugated wall pieces that gave it a real bush Australian feel and I instantly fell in love with the décor.

We were served our drinks and I was drawn (pardon my pun) to the coloured pencils on the table that were supplied for our free rein at designing our own tablecloth.

For starters we ordered the Australiana Board which included the most amazing smoked crocodile and rare cooked kangaroo. It was fantastic! The meat fell apart and the flavours were out of this world! The dips and olives enhanced the flavour of the meat perfectly.

I love that the focus of this place is locally grown and sourced ingredients. The freshness and flavour was definitely proof.

Then, more wine and mains were brought out. I ordered the pasta of the day, which was a lovely creamy salmon. If I can eat it there every time, I could eat it always and forever. MMMMMmmm!

My partner's beef wellington looked incredible too (quote AMAZEBALLS) but my eyes were only on my own plate. I declined to share.

When asking others as they walked in and out what they thought, or had heard, the positive feedback was unanimous. The locals love it and the visitors were coming in from all over the world with many menu recommendations and comments such as - "Come here all the time", "It's our secret!" and "This place is the BOMB!".

So then drinks!..

I've recently started asking bar staff to recommend cocktails that I might like. I was really pleased when I was asked what kind of spirits and flavours I enjoyed and what I had in mind. I told him something smoky but not too sweet. He came back to me with the best thing ever!

I don't want to release the exact makeup because it's not mine to share. However, the story behind it was fun. (Bartender) Jonathan's wife was sick of him coming home from the pub smelling of tobacco and whiskey but always with something sweet on hand to appease. Meaghan felt inspired enough to create the recipe for this amazing drink. " Grounds for Divorce " is the perfect blend of whiskey, tobacco liqueur and vanilla for a lovely interesting flavour that I prefer over fruity cocktails.

The whole experience was absolutely perfect and I would recommend marking it as an experience to have when visiting Darwin. Please read the story of who they are and meet the amazing staff that I will never forget at www.pavoniaplace.com.au

Thankyou and all the staff for absolutely making my experience in Darwin so fantastic. We will definitely be back and I appreciate you taking care of us and making us feel welcome.

A special thank you to the lovely Renee Flis for letting us be annoying tourists for the evening and letting me write about your amazing place.
