Every year I have a dilemma of what to watch at the Fringe, there's so much potential and too little time. I'm also often plagued by high levels of doubt. This year I learnt of event ticket membership, namely FreeTix and Little Birdy Tix. For a set membership fee that gives you access to listed shows over 12 months, it's a bargain! Little did I know it would send me into a ticket booking frenzy which allowed me to be adventurous at no extra pennies. My first show of Adelaide Fringe 2015 was Paul Currie: Release the Baboons. I had no idea what to expect, it was under the comedy category and away we went.
The description read: "A brand new show from surreal street clown and fool time absurdist comedian". From the moment you step into the tent right to the very last minute, it was a fun ride along that brought out the inner fool and every bit of silly you never knew existed in you. Dressed in a three piece suit with a killer moustache and a visor, Currie makes an instant impression as he seats you.
The show is full speed ahead right from the start, very much a journey through his imagination likened to a mad man's dream. It is ridiculous, unpredictable, utterly nonsensical and highly interactive. Audience participation is compulsory and quite frankly almost subconscious. There is no safe place to sit, you will get involved, you do belong to him and so will everybody else. At the end of it all, you will have a solid full hour of laughter, hilarity, riot and absolute madness! Looks like I'm off to a great start at this year's Fringe Festival.
Paul Currie will be performing at Cupola in the Garden of Unearthly Delights from 13 Feb to 15 March. Tickets available from
