The Next Big Thing
I was pleasantly surprised with this game.
Path of Exile is a free to play ARPG (Action Role Playing Game) which blew my mind.
The gameplay is excellent and extremely enticing. At a slight birds eye view, you follow your character, whom you choose at the beginning. Rather than the usual just click and wait for your character to attack, you have to click and aim to fire your bow or swing your sword. I think this makes for an extremely entertaining game, and brings a new level of immersion into the once boring ARPG game genre.
The skill trees are intense. With so many options to choose, you will very rarely find someone with the same skill tree as yourself, which I find to be a breath of fresh air from the replication of skill trees in games such as WoW and Star Wars. The controls may seem a bit clunky at first, but it is easy to get used to.
The graphics aren't bad, but they aren't anything groundbreaking. It is well optimised and everything runs smoothly, to the point where any PC from about 2008 could probably run this game without much hassle. I dare say it, even a Mac book could run this game, if they happen to release a version that works on Mac.
The audio is nicely done, well timed music makes the experience much more involving for the player. The sound effects, such as the monsters that you fight are bone chilling at times. Overall the audio work is top notch.
I found I spent hours playing this game, to the point where I couldn't stop ... until I died 4 times on the same boss. The replay-ability is definitely high in my books, I think I could easily complete this game, go back and play through as a different type of character. The PVP is also a factor which would bring me back to it.
Overall this game is great for a free to play ARPG and I recommend anyone to play this. I'd give this game a 7/10.
It's creative and everything seems to be in good shape. A few bugs here and there, but nothing too major.
