A walk into an Italian Pasticceria is a delight for all the senses. Pasticceria Papa which originally opened first in Haberfield has now it's new addition at Bondi Beach. Superbly located at the Hub development in Hall street formerly the site of the historic Hakoah Club. The Pasticceria Papa has secured a perfect position amongst several eateries including Harris Farm Market. You can enter the complex from the street level off Hall or O'Brien Streets and take the stairs down to the lower level.
Once inside you will be amazed at the moreish horde of delights. Not only do they offer the best sweet cakes and pastries, but you can buy the finest quality cold cuts of salami, prosciutto, pancetta, cured lard, olives, cheeses, breads and all sorts of other mouthwatering treats.
There is way more to this complex than you first realize. You can dine here, open breakfast, lunch and dinner. So many delicious authentic italian dishes to choose from and they also house an extensive wine list too.
There is a casual relaxed indoor seating area sprawled across timber flooring with a creative mix of retro furniture.
But I have left the 'Cavallo di Battaglia' until last. I love my food but my weakness as for many of us has to be cakes, pastries and baked treats. This is where Pasticceria Papa wins me well and truly. An unbelievably beautiful extensive display which will make your head twirl in indecision and your mouth water in anticipation.
You can also choose or order a cake for a special occasion or just because you want one. So many delicious flavours of cheesecake, tarts and speciality cakes all homemade with the finest ingredients. My favourite is ricotta cheesecake.
I was enjoying sitting outside nibbling on my ricotta tart trying to savour every bite, sipping on my latte, watching the people walking by and funnily enough in true italian style I saw two people I knew at Pasticceria Papa while I was there. One person I hadn't seen in 30 years! We chatted like it was just yesterday and decided to meet in a short while at the beach for a swim. Fortunately I always pack swimmers and a towel in my car, especially in summer. I was just about to leave when my eyes caught the display of Gelato, another colourful tempter that will make it very hard to leave. Or just do what I did and take one with you!
Licking my gelato like a big kid I grabbed my swimmers and did a short stroll down Hall street to the famous Bondi Beach. What a wonderful day it was; the sun was shining, my tummy was full and I was delighted in finding Pasticceria Papa at Bondi.
