Over 40 years ago, a southern Italian couple opened a successful cafe in West End, serving their sauces and pasta made on the premises. That tradition continues despite a relocation to Capalaba and change of ownership with the pasta still being made fresh daily on site by the same charming gentleman.

Pasta Al Dente wins the title 'My Find of the Year' as it specialises in fresh pasta that you can take away and cook at home. Catering done easy. Simple really. First, you select your fresh pasta and from another refrigerated area, select your preferred packaged sauce, choosing from flavours such as Macadamia, Bolognese, Carbonara and Salsa Zingara.

There are also a selection of ready-made fresh and frozen meals that simply require heating at home. These include Lasagna, Spinach and Ricotta Cannelloni and a favourite, Sand Crab and Prawn Lasagne. Sounds simple, though making the choice is taxing.

And guess what? If you're having the family over for tea during the week but are too busy to cook, you can order pasta meals for up to eight people to heat up at home. All you need to do is ring ahead and order. How easy is that!

The cafe itself is not large, particularly with the current health regulations, though we chose to dine in and watch the busy takeaway lunchtime crowd.

The set lunch menu changes each day of the week, though all portions are $10. I loved the Ham and Mushroom Fettuccine and my friend enjoyed the Beef Lasagna and vowed not to eat dinner that evening. We rounded our meal off with coffee and Orange Cake, though there is a variety of Italian biscuits if that's more your thing.

All products are made on the premises using Australian ingredients and the aromas from the hot coffees, garlic, and exotic sauces are a heady mix.

Pasta Al Dente is located at Shop 10/ 8 Redland Bay Road, Capalaba, and is open Tuesday to Friday from 7am till 4:30pm and on Saturdays from 8am till noon (except on the first Saturday of each month).
