Party ideas that help you sweat less but have more fun
When it comes to long weekend holidays, some people may book their tickets for a trip away, and some may take a long and leisurely drive and spend some time in the peaceful countryside. For those who just want to spend the weekend relaxing and catching up with some old mates at home, here are five party ideas that can rock your holiday nights without much expense or effort.
1. Pyjama, Pizza and Poker Night Feeling really lazy? This party idea allows you to sit back and relax while having fun with your friends. Just wear your favourite pyjamas, prepare two sets of poker cards and call the pizzeria.
After several pieces of pizza and a few rounds of card games with beer, you will be ready for bed - literally. If you want to learn some new card playing tricks to show your friends, you may find that the website of www.cardgameheaven.com is very helpful. Here you can find a collection of exciting ways to play card games either for multiple players or for a single player.
Apart from poker cards, there are also other types of cards you can consider to give your guests more choice of entertainment. One of my favourite sets of cards is the Ice Breaker Conversation Cards.
It is a set of cards with three interesting questions on each card, and as the name suggests, the purpose is to break the ice between your guests who might have never met each other before. How to play it? Normally we use a fork. Spin it around on the table and the person the fork head points to asks a question of the person the end of the fork points to. It is a great way to start the night as everyone gets to know the other guests by the end of the game.
2. Global Gourmet Dinner Night If you have a broad circle of friends that are from all different backgrounds, it would be a great idea to host a global gourmet dinner night. All they have to do is cook a home made dish from their own ethnic background and bring it along with them to share with others. There can be Indian curry, Chinese dumplings, Japanese sushi, Scottish haggis, even a simple Greek salad or something that most of the guests have never had a chance to try before. I am sure your friends will really appreciate you for the idea and for giving them the chance to spoil their taste buds with a feast everyone has contributed to. I suggest that you also ask your friends to bring along music from their countries to play on the night, which would make the party even more interesting for everyone.
3. Fun Board Games Night Board games are considered as classic family fun. Young or old, everyone can share a great laugh with a fun board game, whether it be the Monopoly, Rummikub or even chess. As a party host, all your hard work is to invite your friends to bring some board games; set up the tables and prepare some drinks and snacks for the guests and your party is ready to go.
Maybe a surprise for the winner can also add some zing to your party. In the past, I have also loved to include a treasure hunt in my backyard garden as the highlight of the games night. It is not only fun for my friends, but is also a chance to surprise them with some hand made gifts.
4. Group Listography Fun Group listography Fun is a group brainstorming exercise based on ideas and concepts. It is a fun game aimed to stimulate and challenge your mind. It is also a great way to relax your mind with creative thinking and by revisiting your memories.
The participants will list their ideas based on a given topic and are encouraged to share their answers after the game. It is a great way to explore more about yourself and your friends, and therefore form a better understanding among the participants.
As a party host, you will prepare a list of ideas and concepts for the guests, a stack of A4 notepads, pens and some drinks and snacks. If you have varying age groups among the guests, you can divide the team into an adult team and a kids team and prepare a list of writing ideas for each. Ideas for the list can be related to career, health, wealth, lifestyle and hobbies.
There are no right or wrong answers for the game and there is no competition involved either, all you need is a willing heart to smile. The most famous publication for the list lovers on the market is the series of listography books created by Lisa Nola. More details can be found vi listography.com/static/books/start.html
5. Costume Movie Night
When was the last time you dressed up in costume? When did you last catch up with mates for a movie? Have you ever done both at once? During a long weekend holiday, you can have all the action, drama, fantasy and adventure happening in your own home. You can select a classic popular movie to play at your house and ask your friends to dress like one of their favourite characters and bring some themed party treats.
In a word, the movie you choose will reflect a theme, either it is an historic movie back to the medieval age, or a fantasy movie related to a classic fairy tales, or a drama movie that shows your holiday destinations. You can be really creative in designing the theme of your party.
If you want your costume movie party night to have more dramatic effect, try to choose some blockbuster fantasy movies that will let your guests immerse themselves in an imaginary world. Some suggestions are Alice in Wonderland, Lord of Rings, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Twilight, Peter Pan or Star Wars. You can also decorate your house with some outdoor glow projective lighting and themed party accessories. If you have some old posters related to the movie, you can also pin them up on the door as a welcoming sign for the costume movie night.
