We are constantly hearing dire warnings of what will happen to our children if they spend too long in front of screens or don't get enough active playtime. Not to mention the litany of potential health problems that will rear their ugly heads if said kids eat too much junk food. It's enough to send any conscientious parent grey overnight. Kids' parties are a massive industry these days and there are now a crazy amount of active birthday party options out there, which will get you the thumbs up on the exercise front – and of course on the fun front too. Here are eight options for busy boys and girls who have energy to burn:

Gymnastics Parties
Great fun, especially for the little ones. My offspring have been to a couple of these parties and loved them. Typically there is some free time to let loose on the gym apparatus, and some more structured activities run by the party host. The foam pit always seems to be the most fun part! Check out what CYC Gymnastics Centre offers.

High Ropes Parties
Becoming more popular now that there is an increasing number of venues across Victoria, these parties get primary schoolers (and teenagers) harnessed up and ready for adventure. Kids tackle a range of obstacles suspended at various heights above the ground, after a full safety briefing. Take a look at the High Ropes Party offered at Melbourne Cable Park .

• Roller or Ice Skating Parties
Think back to the 80s when you were cruising around the local roller rink trying to impress everybody in your stonewash jeans. Things have improved since then! Roller skating and ice skating are still popular and can be combined with party food and birthday cake for a fun skating session with friends. • Dancing Parties
Some local community centres and dance schools are offering dancing parties for primary school aged children. If your child is bonkers about ballet or happy about hip hop then this could be the place for their next party. Party hosts will lead them through a range of fun dance games and routines. My then four year old had a ball at a Glittery Tapping Wonderland party.

• Ninja Warrior Parties
Yes, it is an actual thing – Ninja Warrior Parties. The best thing is that these party people come to you. They set up a cool ninja warrior course in your garden or local park, and organise fun competitions and games just like the TV show. What a way to spend your birthday! • Basketball Parties
Basketball is a very popular sport worldwide. At various venues around Melbourne, you can hold a basketball based party where a party host will organise a series of games, drills and competitions for the birthday boy or girl and their guests on a full-size court. Hoops 247 is one sports centre which offers these parties.

• Indoor Skate Park Parties
For a cool party that appeals to older kids, skate and scooter parties are an option. Generally speaking, you can either go for a cheaper package where the kids amuse themselves on the skate ramps, or you can pay more for an expert to teach them some cool tricks. One thing you won't need to worry about is the weather! Empire Ride & Equip hosts parties at their awesome venue in Braeside.

• AFL Parties
A truly Melbourne concept; if you have a bunch of footie fans to entertain, this could be a winner. Packed full of games, drills, exercises and competitions this should tire out even the most diehard of athletes. All you need to provide is the space and a professional mobile party team will supply the rest. Take a look at Proactivity's AFL parties.

With so many options, the hardest thing you'll have to do is decide which one to pick!
