My sister and her long time boyfriend recently became engaged. (He popped the question when they were inside the Surfers Paradise Sling Shot.) So seeing as they like to be extravagant, they booked their engagement party for the Q1 observation deck.

They paid a reasonable fee to book out a section of the observation deck and allowed their party of 80 a reduced $10 rate of entry. The excitement started before we had even entered with a sign out the front reading 'Jess and Heath's Engagement Party' as well as 4 other events being held within the Q1. Up we went in the speedy elevator and escorted over to our roped off 'section' of the Q1.

People started to filter through, and although they promised a section of the bar, we lined up with everyone else. It was an extremely busy bar and they need to expand it or put on more staff to accommodate for the large number of people at the observation deck. You waited around 20 minutes to be served. Prices of drinks were the same as clubs prices, which was to be expected. Altitude cocktails were a whopping $19 but the house vodka and lemonade was $7.50.

Father of the bride paid for some catering which was more than enough. They bought out pizza, Chinese, crumbed chicken and more. So there was no shortage of food but it came at its price. A beautiful cake was made (not by the Q1) and my sister paid for it to be bought up with her package but my dad was stopped at the door and had to pay this fee again as they had misplaced the record of the original payment of it. This was a small disappointment and you would think they would have something like this organised, especially as Dad had just paid them a lot for their catering. They promised to reimburse my sister for this misunderstanding.

The view of course was amazing and it was just astonishing that we are so fortunate and so lucky to have something like this in our backyard. The lights of Surfers were beautiful and the beach was beautifully lit up.

It was a great party (although the security guard needed to be more cheerful). Despite the few mishaps, I would still recommend booking a party for the Q1. It is unique and beautiful experience and why not share it with those who you love.
